Dear Parents / Guardians,
On behalf of the staff at Our Lady of Grace International School, I am happy to welcome you to the 2017/18 school year! We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our children can achieve their highest potential. We recognize that to be successful in school, our children need support from all of us. A strong partnership between school and families makes a great difference in your child’s education.
As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities. We ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that he/she:
1) Attends school daily and arrives on time, ready for the day’s learning experience
2) Completes all homework assignments given by teachers
3) Reads daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills
4) Shares school experiences with you so that you are aware of his/her school life
5) Informs you if he/she needs additional support in any area or subject
6) Knows that you expect him/her to succeed in school and go on to college
It has been a busy first full week at Our Lady of Grace Int’l School. A lot of time has been spent re-familiarizing our students with school rules and regulations and introducing our new students to our school systems.
Our school counselors, Ms. Ruth, Mr. Max and Mr. Edmund, held a special snack time for all elementary students who are new to OLGIS. They served the students cake and juice and discussed strategies to help our new students adjust to their new school.
We held our first Elementary assembly where, among other things, students were introduced to our new school nurse, Ms. Samuellyn, who advised us all on the importance of preventing and spreading germs.
Our counselors presented a role-playing skit about anti bullying which advised students on useful strategies to deal with aggression, methods to eliminate aggressive behavior and letting all know they were there to help. We also discussed the importance of Kindness, Positivity and Inspiration.
For your information, at our Elementary Assembly next month, students from each grade will be given certificates for:
1.) Acts of Kindness
2.) Academic achievement including effort and improvement.
And of course, Teachers and students have been hard at work getting our academic programs in place!
Please consider joining and working with our Parent Teacher Association as our students can greatly benefit from your involvement and contributions to the school’s program and its operations.
I look forward to meeting with you at the Meet and Greet on October 5.
Ms. Fiona Cunningham
